Big, Quiet, Slow-Moving Chunks of Lead...

I was playing with different powders and loads with the 45-70 cartridge this weekend. I found a light load that works pretty well with my powder coated 405 gr bullets (using a softer alloy and after powder coating them they ran about 420 gr). Using 13 gr of Unique with my cast bullets, they were moving a little over 1k fps and made for a really light, pleasant to shoot, load. The place I was shooting was shorter than normal so I could only test the loads out to about 200 yards. With this load, I was consistently hitting the 200 yard steel plate with the scoped Handi Rifle. Pretty fun little load. I did, however, have to break out the full power loads to show my buddy what the 45-70 was really capable of.
