    Beautiful firearms.

The bottom one looks like a Thompson Encore? Special clambering/ stock?

We won't be going until Oct, we have to put in for the tags before the end of next month. I am not sure when we will find out if we get the tags, but the area we are going to has historically been very good so I am hopeful.

Oh yea..... I have my tag and we go out next month to do some shooting. I need to learn how to use a scope. I have only used iron sights in the past so I need some practice and training...

So tell us how it goes transitioning to a scope. I don't believe any of us can remember that far back.

Hope you have luck with your hunt. If you get something, report back on how it all went.

    Hello Everyone
Well, I went on my first hunt…
    I learned a lot!!!!!
But…. I only saw one Doe.
I understand it was just too hot. The deer had bright moonlight at night to feed and were bedding down before sunrise.
I also learned just how out of shape I have become. The hours of walking through the mountains and across rolling hills kicked my butt.
I have much to ponder before next year and yes I am going again.

Well, good on you! I get to go weekend after this. I go up to a farm owned by a friend from the Guard. Seems I go every year and have a great get-together with my friend and his family, but never see a deer to shoot. Still, fun to go.

Better luck next year. I believe those couse deer are usually a long shot, unlike what I see in Wisconsin.

    You want Deer?

My backyard here in St Looney is  regular deer highway. We see two to five every night. And we're certainly not seeing all of them. A couple of nights ago, my big boy Shep decided he had to use the yard at 2 AM.  He was in mid-squat when a small buck ghosted across the backyard not 20 feet from him. I swear I could hear my Shep's eyes cross.  Wink

I'd get my hunting tags and bag one - but the neighbor behind us may not appreciate that.

All your deer are hanging out in the 'burbs.

Deer have an intelligence network that the military would envy. Seems as soon as deer season comes, they disappear from those yards where guys might have bows. I expect you would need to have a bow to kill the deer as states around here have laws about discharge of a weapon within a certain distance from any domicile. In Illinois it's 250 yards (or maybe feet - still a long way). Bows, however, are shootable anywhere. Here in Illinois we have rules about crossbows - you need to be disabled. But in Indiana anyone can hunt with a crossbow. Makes hitting the deer a lot easier.

But I agree. Seems in the Midwest the deer have moved to the suburbs.

I sometimes see them in my neighborhood early in the morning a few blocks away.  I have no idea how they get there on that hillside--lots of streets and homes between that hillside and the mountains.  I guess if the grass is green enough and nobody shooting at you...
