    science part III

Post by sthwestvictoria on Sun Apr 13, 2014 6:44 pm

Chemistry of shooting sports? Not so much the detail but the history and how the current mix was arrived at.
The transition from a mixture like black powder to the nitrocellulose single base and then double base powder. The roll of retardants and stabilisers.

For primers the mecury fulminates, then the corrosive primers on to the current lead styphates.

For cleaning - how ammonium agents like Sweets 7.62 removes copper fouling.

yes.. there will be a Science III on the horizon...
BTW, do you know what the German word for nitrocellulose is?

Wolle.... In delivered form, nitrocellulose looks like wool clumps. I have some very unique stories about nitrocellulose. I have used it by the tons at a previous company.

Did you receive the MP3 I emailed for this around black powder?
It would be great to hear some stories around the nitrocellulose.
